Connect Vultr Account

Vultr connects via API key. One key gives you access to compute, storage, and DNS.

Get Your API Key

  1. Log in to my.vultr.com (opens in a new tab) > Account > API
  2. Enable API if it isn't already
  3. Under Access Control, add 49.12.128.238/32 (the OEC.sh platform), or choose Allow all IPv4
  4. Copy your API key
⚠️

Step 3 is required. OEC.sh calls the Vultr API from its own server, not from your browser, so adding your own IP address is not enough. If 49.12.128.238 is not on the list, Vultr refuses every request with "Unauthorized IP address: 49.12.128.238", and server creation fails.

⚠️

The Vultr API key has full account access. Keep it secure.

Add to OEC.sh

Go to Settings > Cloud Accounts > Add Account > Vultr.

Paste your API key and click Add Account. The account shows Active with Compute, Storage, and DNS badges.

Active means the key was saved. Vultr checks the Access Control list on each request, so if 49.12.128.238 is missing you will only see it when OEC.sh first talks to Vultr, for example when loading regions or creating a server.

Using Your Vultr Account

Servers -- Go to Servers > Add Server > Provision from Cloud. Pick region and plan.

Backups -- Go to Settings > Storage > Quick Setup. Vultr Object Storage is S3-compatible but only available in select regions (see below).

DNS -- Go to Settings > DNS Providers > Quick Setup. Select a domain from Vultr DNS.

Object Storage Regions

Object Storage is only available in:

  • New Jersey (ewr)
  • Singapore (sgp)
  • Amsterdam (ams)
  • Bangalore (blr)

You can use storage from any server location though.

Troubleshooting

"Unauthorized IP address: 49.12.128.238" (HTTP 401) -- The OEC.sh platform is not on your API key's allowed list. Go to Vultr Account > API > Access Control, add 49.12.128.238/32 or choose Allow all IPv4, then retry. The API key itself does not need to change.

"Invalid API Key" (HTTP 401) -- Key is wrong or API is disabled. Check in Vultr Account > API.

Instance creation fails -- Try a different region. New accounts have limits -- contact Vultr support. Some plans aren't available in all regions.

Object Storage not available -- It's only in 4 regions (listed above). Create storage in one of those regions.

DNS zone not found -- Add your domain to Vultr DNS first (Dashboard > DNS), then update nameservers at your registrar.
